An existing two-story motel in Modesto is being transformed into permanent supportive housing, giving the property a new purpose and creating much-needed housing for the community.
When complete, the project will provide 48 furnished residential units, plus an onsite manager’s unit. Half of the supportive housing units are planned for military veterans, while the remaining units will serve individuals working with Stanislaus County Behavioral Health and Recovery Services.
UC Framing’s role focuses on the wood framing and rough carpentry required to transform the existing structure for its new use. This includes new interior framing, structural headers and posts, shear walls, roof framing modifications, stair and landing framing, window and door framing, and other structural wood work throughout the renovation.
What makes this project especially meaningful is its adaptive-reuse approach. Rather than starting from the ground up, an existing Modesto motel is being thoughtfully repurposed to meet an important community need. Supported in large part by California’s Homekey+ program, the project is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to expand permanent supportive housing and create more opportunities for people to find a safe and stable place to call home.
